  English Speaking Classes

Being able to speak English clearly and with confidence allows a person to communicate and engage with people all over the world. This applies to studies, business and more informal situations like travelling.

At LingoSkills, our classes are in English, given by a native English speaker.

Students are encouraged to engage in the activities speaking English only as far as possible. This gives the opportunity to practise speaking English in a safe environment where mistakes can gently be corrected. As a student becomes comfortable speaking English – even if it is not perfectly correct – so his confidence grows. This will enable him to start speaking English outside the classroom as well, which will further develop his skills.

These classes focus on improving your English speaking skills. We'll be working on the following aspects in particular:

• Vocabulary building (learn new words)
• Speaking – Express yourself with confidence
  • Give presentations that get your point across clearly
  • Communicate with colleagues around the world
  • Participate in meetings
  • Communicate with clients
  • Express your ideas clearly
• Listening – Understand, remember and contribute to discussions

  English writing skills

Most study assessments require the student to write answers to questions. Job applications need to be made in writing. Working in a job or running a business and so much more in our daily lives requires good writing skills.

Weak writing skills can make the writer appear careless and ignorant. Sometimes the message the writer is trying to get across can get lost completely as the reader can’t understand what he is trying to say.

In our English classes, we’ll work on writing clearly and correctly. We'll be focusing on the following skills in particular:

• Goal setting
• Audience
• Planning
• Vocabulary
• Structure
• Introduction elements
• Body elements
• Conclusion

  Reading to understand and remember

Information is often in a written format. Our daily lives demand that we spend much of our time accessing content on the internet - and much of this is in text. Notes for meetings, business reports, emails to clients, proposals, assignments, projects, tests and so much more require us to read effectively to be able to access the information given.

But just being able to read the individual words on a page isn’t enough. You must be able to understand what the entire piece of writing is about. You need to be able to identify and understand aspects such as

• the main idea or message of the text,
• any facts given,
• how facts or opinions relate to each other and
• how they connect to other facts and even other subjects.

If you can’t understand what you are reading, you won’t be able to learn the concepts you need to remember and apply.

In our English classes, we’ll focus on improving your reading skills so that you can understand and remember what you are reading more easily as well as apply that knowledge to new work and content.

  English Listening Skills

A good part of being a skilled communicator involves listening to what someone else is saying. Whether you are a business person attending meetings with clients and colleagues or a student going to classes, you need effective listening skills to get ahead.

In these classes we'll focus on the following Active Listening skills:

• Note-taking when someone is speaking
• Reflecting
• Clarification and questioning
• Summarizing and paraphrasing
• Response and feedback
• Nonverbal actions
